Khamzat ‘Borz’ Chimaev‘s rise to stardom in the UFC hit new levels on Saturday Night (October 26), when he face-cranked Robert Whittaker’s jaw so hard he pushed his teeth away from his jaw. His performance at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi has everyone talking about him, from fans to the UFC brass and even the champion of his division calling for a title fight.
The 30-year-old Chechen has steamrolled through most of his opponents and remains undefeated at 14-0. However, Chimaev has been involved in a number of controversies, with one of those being what looks like a cryptocurrency scam.
Khamzat Seemingly Turned To Meme Coins After Visa Issues And Health Complications Kept Him From Fighting

“Crazy man you’re rich and still try to scam your fans…
That was 100 percent to scam his fans. How do I know this? I was just approached to do this same thing… integrity you either have it or you… pic.twitter.com/xMJv2Pb8F8

Chimaev is known for long lay-offs between fights due to issues obtaining visas to enter the US, along with repeated health issues. During his most recent bout of downtime this summer, Chimaev began promoting the meme coin $SMASH.
The token was created in his image and centered around his catchphrase ‘Smash’. Borz is known for being a man of few words, but regularly says he will ‘smash everybody’. Initially, Chimaev was shilling SMASH coin across all of his socials, but it turned out to be one of the quickest celeb pump and dumps.

After urging his fans to buy his SMASH token, it rose more than 10x within the first few hours. From that point, it quickly went downhill and less than 24 hours later, Borz’s token was at pretty much $0. Unfortunately for Chimaev, his actions caught the attention of the notorious crypto investigator, ZachXBT.
Using timing analysis and tracking of transactions, ZachXBT found that Khamzat and his team scooped up more than 71% of the supply. He found that the insider and dev team wallets were directly linked due to both being funded by the same Ethereum address.
In total, more than $1 million worth of SMASH was dumped by all of the wallets linked to Chimaev and his team, leading ZachXBT to ask him “Why do all of you instantly nuke your reputation with meme coin scams?”
Borz being outed by such a notable member of ‘crypto Twitter’ meant that an influx of the crypto community quickly began chiming into the conversation. Many notable influencers took issue with Khamzat’s apparent pump and dump, which drained seven figures of his fan’s money.

However, Khamzat quickly realized the negative attention he was attracting and quickly went on the defensive. He took to social media to blame his manager for the pump and dump of SMASH. He claimed that he never understood the concept of cryptocurrency.
During a later interview with Russian internet personality Aslanbek Badaev, the pro MMA fighter revealed that it was his manager who came to him with the offer to promote the SMASH meme coin. “Well, my manager… you can say acted stupidly, and I also made a mistake in this crypto. I don’t understand crypto at all. I trust my manager,” Chimaev told Badaev.
Khamzat said he was told by the devs of SMASH coin that he would be heavily compensated for the promotion of the token across his social media accounts. However, he claims that he also got ripped off. Borz said later that he was looking for the devs and planned to make them pay. “Now, we are looking for them. One was found. They forced him to make a video that it’s their fault,” he added.
