Stripe adds support for crypto purchases for EU clients: report

  • Stripe has reportedly added support for Bitcoin and crypto purchases for its EU clients.
  • Users can now buy crypto using Stripe-issued credit or debit cards.

Stripe’s customers in the European Union can now purchase Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies with credit or debit cards, according to a report by the Irish Independent.

The move follows Stripe’s expansion of its crypto integration across the EU as the financial services provider looks to make it easier for shoppers to use digital assets.

EU customers will enjoy this new offer via Stripe-issued cards, the report noted.

Stripes expands crypto purchases to EU

According to the report published on July 16, Stripe targets easy access to BTC, ETH and other virtual assets for its online vendors and users.

The community can access the service via a crypto widget on the Stripe website, with onboarding including processes for Know Your Customer (KYC) checks. The widget will also be key in handling charges as well as disputes.

Crypto is a big addition for Stripe merchants, the company’s head of crypto John Egan said.

“Now, merchants who rely on Stripe’s onramp for things like conversion optimization, identity verification, and fraud prevention can reach a more global audience. This lets them focus on growing their business and helping their customers,” he noted.

Stripe is taking this step amid wider adoption of crypto as the EU regulatory landscape shapes with the roll out of MiCA regulations. The company recently announced support for stablecoin payments.

The company unveiled its fiat-to-crypto payments service in December 2022, providing for customers’ purchase of crypto via Web3 apps.
